Auday Basheer Essa Al-Mayyah


Auday Al-Mayyahi is currently a lecturer in Department of Electrical Engineering at University of Basrah. In June 2018, he completed his PhD at the University of Sussex in UK. His current research is addressing challenges associated with industrial automation by proposing and developing new methodologies to improve and enhance automation process, particularly, applications of robotics using artificial intelligence and computer vision.

Auday successfully won a a Fulbright prestigious scholarship for Iraqi scholars program and participated in a 10-week intensive program at
the University of Wyoming in the United States

Before that, Auday held a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering followed by Master’s Degree in Power and Machine from the University
of Basrah. After the completion of his master degree, he worked as an Electrical Engineer with different industrial sectors for several years in which he mainly supervised electrical installations of gas power plants and power substations. Then, he went to start his job in academia as an associate tutor in Electrical Engineering Department at University of Basrah. He has been a module convenor for different modules such as electric circuits and electrical technology. Also, he supervised power and machine labs for several years.

Moreover, Auday participated as an associate researcher in Intelligent Modern System Design (i-mosyde) Project funded by European Union. Auday is a senior member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and that includes Robotics and Automation Society (RAS), Internet of Things Community, and Computational Intelligence Society (CIS). He is also a member of the British Machine Vision Association (BMVA).

Furthermore, Auday recognized as an associate fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in UK. He has been an associate tutor in Engineering and Design Department at the University of Sussex. As an associate tutor, he has been working in workshops and laboratories in Department of Engineering and Design to teach undergraduate students in different modules.

Auday also has been an (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) STEM Ambassador in the South East of England and took part in managing and teaching several Headstart engineering summer schools for A-level students. He holds Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Certificate.
